Summit: US to test Pres. Jonathan’s aides, other Africans for Ebola

There are reports that the US is planning to screen a delegation from Nigeria and other affected African countries billed to attend the African/American Leaders Summit on Monday August 4th in Washington DC, for exposure to Ebola. According to Reuters, president Obama said some African participants will be screened because it's important that they protect US from the outbreak.
"Folks who are from these countries that have even a marginal risk, or an infinitesimal risk of having been exposed in some fashion, we’re making sure we’re doing screening.” Obama said.
According to Punch, President Jonathan is among the African leaders expected to attend the event and he will be going with his aides. Even though there's no Ebola outbreak in Nigeria, a Liberian man died here from the virus so president Jonathan's aides will likely be screened when they arrive the US

The presidents of two Ebola affected countries, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia and Ernest BaiKoroma  of Sierre Leone have said they will not be attending the summit. Continue...

Ebola has been blamed for some 729 deaths in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Dubai's Emirates Airlines has even suspended all flights to Guinea over Ebola.

Meanwhile, above is how an American doctor affected with Ebola arrived the US yesterday. Dr Kent Brentley (pictured right), one of two US doctors infected with the Ebola Virus arrived at a university hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, which is one of the four institutions in the US equipped to handle such cases. He was flown in from Liberia in a special medical plane. He and another female doctor were in Liberia to help combat Ebola when they contracted the deadly disease. Same medical plane will return to Liberia to pick up the other doctor

EboLa is more deadly than boko haram, I love the fact that the 2 African countries won't be attending and giving Usa the opportunty to turn them into a "pity party charity case".. ....For all I think, these first world powers might be the cause of this Ebola virus bcox dy r alwys using African countries as a dumping/ testing ground for their radio active chemos...... . So our not beloved president would be tested for this virus and he is actually going?on behalf of the 36states in Nigeria, am ashamed of Nigerian govt.#cheEzyjayne

I hope the Nigerian government learns from America's example. They don't toy with their citizens! They'll rather give a citizen who obviously has full blown Ebola free pass than foreign nationals who may not be infected but have porous borders. Hope the screening will make Jonathan sit in his country to face issues at hand.

That's good. When the Nigerian government should have taken the initiative to protect its citizens by suspending flights from affected countries they were snail slow to act till the Liberian man got in. So let's face the consequences of other countries who want to protect their own citizens from Ebola.

Patrick Sawyer was allowed to board a flight to Nigeria because he was a Liberian official attending the ECOWAS meeting. When will Nigerians learn to stop giving preferential treatment to people because of their social status. This disease does not know who you are. No one is exempt from contracting the disease. The staff at First Consultants were extremely brave for forcing Patrick Sawyer to stay in hospital and by isolating him. His protocol person and the Nigerian representative tried to take him to Calabar against the advice of medical staff but thankfully with foresight the health professionals stood their ground. 18 people that were on the same flight as Sawyer from Liberia are yet to be contacted. The two individuals with fevers are being monitored but not isolated. A dead body from Liberia was brought to Anambra, no one knows if he died from Ebola. Dead bodies are more contagious. We are genuinely at risk because no precautions have been taken by the government. They are too busy doing politics and making money.

I like what d US is doin, test all of the naija leaders not only for ebola self! Test them for Aids too. Instead of our govt to put stringent measures in place, they allowed Patrick Sawyer in to lagos , as if we don't have enough problems. To worsen matters, the Minister of health is always lying to us that they are handling the situation! Handling what?dem don fit handle ordinary malaria?
