Pastor Ituah Ighodalo denies saying he has cure for Ebola

Last week, popular Lagos pastor and founder of Trinity House church, Ituah Ighodalo, was credited as saying he has found a solution to the deadly Ebola disease and that Ebola victims should not seek medical attention. Ighodalo has denied saying this, insisting he was misquoted.

Below is a statement he released yesterday
"It has come to our attention a story published by the Punch newspaper written by one Temitayo Famutimi in response to a post on our official Facebook page. The original story was a message of hope and faith reminding us of the ever living words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and reaffirming our belief that ‘with God all things are possible’ , using the John Lake testimony and written to encourage us never to cease praying no matter what we or the world may be going through."
Nowhere in the said story did Pastor Ighodalo make claims that he had found a solution or that “only God’s anointing and the living words of Jesus” were all that were needed for the Ebola disease or that people should not seek medical help and attention. Continue
In no way did the story suggest for people to act irresponsibly with regards to any medical emergency including the Ebola virus. The headline of the story and its contents were clearly written with sensationalism in mind. In the spirit of good journalism the  reporter  should have made attempts to contact the church to verify his story. This negates the practice of professional journalism, which we would have expected from a leading newspaper such as Punch. We sympathise with those who have lost loved ones to the disease and indeed most other diseases ravaging our world including AIDs, Cancer and Malaria and our prayer is that as the medical world continues to look for a solution to the disease and  that our God will provide succour and encouragement to all the innocent people going through this trauma  and do that, which only He can do”. the statement read

Below is what Ighodalo wrote on his Facebook page...

HOW ELSE DOES HE WANT PEOPLE TO TRANSLATE THIS WRITE UP. A LOT OF GULLIBLE PEOPLE WILL TAKE THE WRITE UP ON FACE VALUE AND START TROOPING TO HIS CHURCH FOR CURE. I FEAR FOR PASTORS WHO USES THE WORD OF GOD TO CONFUSE PEOPLE. THE BIBLE MAKE IT CLEAR THAT WE SHOULD ALSO ADD WISDOM TO OUR FAITH, AND WISDOM IN THIS CASE IS TO SEEK MEDICAL HELP NOT DRINKING PASTOR BLESSED OLIVE OIL.

Ah we are indeed a generation of vipers! Quick to spit venom and quick to condemn. Nothing anyone says goes undissected and judged. He is a man of God he SHOULD encourage us. And yes why can't we be used like Lake?was he not a man like us? Our generation is too lazy to do what they did to achieve what they achieved. To busy keeping up with the Kardashians and posting evil comments to spend enough time with the Bible and prayers. If Elijah and Co in the Bible seem to distant to relate with, how about Joseph Ayo Babalola a fellow Nigerian ego worked immense miracles Instead of us to be encouraged and challenged to follow suit like pastor Ituah was suggesting we're here talking jibberish. That's why I always say if we were around in Jesus' time we would be part of the ones that would have said crucify him. Let us all ponder and repent. And yes if he can cure it through the power of God then we should be happy in case of a spread. Oh ye of little or no faith!

Several years ago, Ebola virus erupted in Africa, killing thousands without restrain or cure. The medical world was perplexed. A great man of God by the name John G Lake came to the rescue. Laying hands on infected people who were not to be touched. The slightest contact with any secretion from an infected person is all it takes for transmission. But with bare hands, cleaning secretion and curing every victim, John G Lake along with his Holy Ghost filled team, brought to an abrupt end the spread of the deadly virus.

John G Lake was a fake pastor from America who died 1935 and with this name and telling that ebola is killing before thousands of people, is a big lie. I got this information from a friend and he told me what he should do and all I could say is that this Pastors is not a real man of God because Ebola is not an easy game and what he told to his followers on his own facebookpage and an the facebook page of his church is a big lie, and the worst what a so called great man of God can do, but i know many of this pastors from this pentecost churchews only want money from their followers !!!!!!!!!!!!!

DEAR MS LINDA, PLS I SUGGEST YOU ASK YOUR FOLLOWERS TO SUGGEST THE WAY FORWARD PER THIS EBOLA VIRUS THAT MAY RAVAGE THE NATION IF NO SERIOUS PREVENTIVE MEASURES ARE PUT IN PLACE. PLS CALL-UP THE MEDICAL EXPERTS WHO ARE YOUR FOLLOWERS TO LEND THEIR PROFESSIONAL ADVICE TO THE MASSES. THAT WAY YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE YOUR QUOTA TOWARDS SAVING LIVES. OTHERWISE WHEN EBOLA VIRUS STRIKES HARDER YOU NEVER CAN TELL HOW MANY OF YOUR FOLLWERS THAT MIGHT BE AFFFECTED AS EBOLA VIRUS IS NOT A RESPECTOR OF PERSONS.

U're so crazy Bonario, a carnal mind like you can never understand the things of the spirit. The pastor was only trying to illustrate God's infinite power and wat it has wrought in time past, of course that power is still available today and as potent as ever. "But he that cometh to God must first BELIEVE That he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him, for without Faith it is impossible to please God" Heb.11:6. So stop the Blasphemy Bona.

well regardless the Good Pastor's denial, the facebook post is so untrue u begin to wonder what this is really all about , first and foremost JOHN G LAKE who is purported to have cured ebola died on September 16 1935 and the first Know case of Ebola was in 1976 , that make it almost 40 years after his death so my dear friends how is it possible ? People should always check their facts before spreading unsavory rumors, their is no doubt that God in His Infinite Mercy would Protect us but spreading falsehood in the Name of God is totally out of order .Thank you

Mr know know, talk rubbish all the time. What's the difference between Ebola and malaria as far as faith is concerned? Is Ebola too difficult for God to heal as compared to your "ordinary" malaria? Will it draw more powers from him?

Anonymous said...

What you don't know, shut up and learn. Why is wisdom to seek medical help? Has medical help cured any Ebola yet? Why is wisdom not to seek divine help and healing in an incurable medical situation? Knowing only God can heal any affliction!

Anonymous said...

Which one a joke.....AIDS, cancer, or even malaria that has killed so many? The same God can heal all of them.

It is a pity and a shame that journalism in Nigeria has deteriorated to a state of apathy, pettiness and unnecessary witch hunting.

This has to change. People deserve to be better informed.

I am not a member of Pastor Ituah's church, however, when I read this headline,I knew he had been misrepresented, because (as apparent in his official statement), he is a reasonable man.

Thus I have decided to share my thoughts:

I am in my early 30s however, I heard this very story about John J. Lake when I was 17 years old.

If the reporter had done some basic research using Google - John G. Lake:1870-1935 - he/she would have gotten the facts right and thereby addressed the subject appropriately : which would be the question of faith/ healing, and/ or would have contacted Pastor Ituah's Church to GET CLARITY before hastily putting pen to paper on the subject.

We all have a bible somewhere.

In that revered book of yours, Jesus said in Matthew 17:20 'If you have faith as a grain of Mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you'

This is the real subject. Faith(In God for what men call 'impossible')

Now whether one has faith or not is a different issue entirely !

I believe that as a Pastor, Mr Ighodalo was acting in his office; inspiring people to build their faith, and not to despair regarding the situation or circumstances; be it health/ the issue of ebola in this instance

Other situations could be in the area of finances, marriage, the job, or just all round fulfillment.

John G. Lake was Pastor Ituah's case study of a man that triumphed over 'impossible situations' in his own time.

Pastor Ituah did not state he had a cure! That would have been misleading.

Rather his intention was to inspire people to have faith in the true God (with whom nothing is impossible)

Of course there are fakes out there, who collect money from people, claiming to be professional miracle workers, and using the name of God for selfish gains. Now that is a different issue entirely.

Speaking for myself: I BELIEVE IN THE GOD OF JOHN J. LAKE.

LETS GET OUR FACTS RIGHT !

What do you expect from a flip-flop who cannot settle with one wife? Changing his mind without any conviction as the wind blows. Christian Pastors never regret advancing the healing power of God being superior to any form of Western/Eastern healing, never, ever. Real Apostles proclaim God saith the Lord and damn the devil. That's why they are pastors and not show-biz noisemakers. Pastors know and advance same, that the Almighty God gives the scientists the wisdom to find "cure" to ailments.

Pator Ighodalo please get your facts right and don't embarrass us o. john G lake was never involved or credited to ever curing Ebola in any form. He died ever before Ebola was even Discovered. he died in 1935 and Ebola was only discovered in 1976. He couldn't have cured something that didn't exist in his time

Lol...The Ebola virus is not for word play o. Pastor John G. Lake never saw a case of it before he died in sept 1935 and the virus was first identified in 1976. Moreso, no viral activity microscopy/study can be done on the palms, lol.
Pastor John G. Lake and his first wife both died of stroke after accusations of misappropriating funds and staging miraculous healings in "healing rooms". Stroke itself is not even close to a million times as serious as the Ebola virus.
Thankfully, the lagos state govt has done well to put out words to the clergy TB Joshua about the dangers of the virus if he allows infected ppl into his church.

Hmmm, The Pastor's message was simply about faith and to give hope to people. there is nothing impossible for God, and no matter how deadly this disease may seem to us, it is really no different from malaria in the sight of God. And if God could use that Lake guy to heal people of the disease in time past, he would do it again and again in different ways.
Obviously, the journalist is shallow to have mis-interpreted the message. Or maybe it wasn't even mis-interpreted, maybe it was just another tactic to sell their piece to the gullible populace who would believe anything that promises hope in this trying times.
It takes a christian with the mind-set of God to understand that message above. Therefore, I do not blame the ignorant ones commenting on this blog

For the life and ministry of John G. Lake, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_G._Lake

Some Pentecostal Pastors will talk their members to death and spread falsehood on hearsay basis without finding out the truth.

Very true...

He didn't say that right?? how else would he expect that such would be interpreted. Pls just quickly shut ur mouth as fast as possible, just because he is trying to increase population of his congregation he starts spewing nonsense out of his mouth.Just so he knows, Ebola is no arranged miracle where people are paid to act sick and cured by pastors.

Is ebola worse than death itself? It's a viral disease that man has been trying to control through medical knowledge. If we believe that God raised Christ from the dead why do we find it hard to believe that He can cure ebola? Why can't we trust Him? And we disdain His servant? How then can we be established?
God can cure ebola and even if any worse disease breaks out He still can! Don't magnify medicine above God Almighty.
