I STRONGLY AGREED WITH HER

I so agree with her. Some you manage to wear to church if the styles are not too provoking. Above all, after paying like 8000-10000 (that's how much have been paying) you might not even eat at the party, or not given drinks without souvenirs...lol.

I so agree, some people use that aso-ebi thing to extort exorbitant amount from girls who are ever so ready to pay because they know they will get their chance at extortion at their own wedding.

Lovely outfit, and you look good and posh in it dear. Looking good has to do with your level of confidence and personality,it has nothing to do with expensive designers wear.

And come to think av it,this Asoebi craze has got so many babes in mess, they go so desperate about it (just to step up indeed) #saveitfortheDday.

I strongly agree with her.

Infact it's becoming a very serious issue cos we always want new stuffs so why spend a fortune on one which most likely won't be worn more than once or twice except the fabric is 'out of this world'

Instead of them to tell friends straight up to do "osusu" for them, na under asoebi umbrella them go dey hide under.

8000-10000 is even low compared to 30000 as at 2006, 15000 as at 2008 and 25000 last year. This is just a few of what I have paid 4 aso ebi. After paying such an amount, the ladies whose asoebi u pay 4 don't even send you. Abeg I no do again, not by force.

The difference will always be clear

Okay let me break this down, NI,500 for a yard?, reckon she'd use let's say 3 yards = N4500, // transportation fee (to and fro) not forgetting the stress involved going to the market = N1000 (buses), N2000 (cabs) or N1500 worth of personal fuel.// 'Small tailor" fees = N1000 // not forgetting transporting yourself to the tailoring shop for measurements and costs of. Delivery after the job is done....People kill their bodies with stress just to save an extra N500 or N1000, remember doctors are on strike.

GOOD GIRL...THE AVERAGE PERSON IN LAGOS HAS AT LEAST 30 WEDDINGS A YEAR TO ATTEND GIVEN OUR MASSIVE SOCIAL CIRCLES. AT 20K EACH THAT'S 600K PER ANNUM MINUS GIFTS AND EXTRA THINGS TO ADD. WHY WON'T CORUPTION BE RAMPANT IN NAIJA. CUT YOUR COAT ACCORDING TO YOUR SIZE.

Great point. Unfortunately, the dress does look like it was sewn on the road in festac....or maybe its ur shape that is off. Something is sha off.

Ewemade Emokpae...aka shakara couture...that one is busy charging 40k for her aso ebi. The aso ebi by the way is only aso oke. No lace or anything.

Why she wants guests paying for her wedding, I don't know. She better just have a wedding that she can afford, instead of doing more than herself.

Say the naked truth...I totally agrees with her.

I totally agree with her, when i married my aso-ebi was 2500, because i understood that one may end up wearing it just once, but this year the cheapest asoebi i have gotten is 15k for 4yards, the thing is really annoying, especially when i have 2 weddings in a month, nowadays i ignore wear english or find someone to share the 4yards with making minimum 7500each, which is still expensive.how peeps think i will still give gift or money in envelope after that is beyond me. the ishdon tire me.

Anonymous said...

So true. Love u show Tracy. Pls get a professional make-up artist when you are on set

Anonymous said...

But then you would give out Aso-Ebi for your own wedding and expect many people to buy, Onye oshi.........look ladies look at it as an investment, you may attend an average of 30 weddings a year (unless you're 'Toke Makinwa') but your aso ebi would be bought by many more friends when its your turn. #Nova

Anonymous said...

na so my Tracy be real, what about all does designers shoes, bags and clothes, hope u will be going to okrika to buy and safe money now,

Anonymous said...

the matter tire mii.... Like my friend told mii her asoebi is 15000 i told d girl i cant afford it... She got angry.. Since the asoebi is red and gold.. I bought a materiel myself which was 2500 combination of both red and gold ... And the sewin was 3000 for a nice simple gown... I attended her wedding and people were like...ur dress is beautiful... I was so happy i didnt buy dat asoebi cos at d end of the day she gave them a towel which cost 300 naira... Meanwhile the cost price is 8000 she added 7000.... But i tank GOD for been myself dat day... Cut coat accordin to ur cloth...

Anonymous said...

Yes the price of Aso Ebi is getting ridiculous, but its a decision, if you feel your friend is worth it, buy it.....if you are going to make your decision public notice....its more like you are throwing shade......but whats my business #sippingonsomedelicioustea

Anonymous said...

Nice n love how u keep it real

Anonymous said...

That's quite low o...... was arm twisted to pay 40,000 for a childhood friend's engagement & wedding aso ebi...... the only souvenir we got was a small towel with a large pic of their faces...
That's all ooh!!! Thank God I didn't even go for the hen night!!

I agree with Tracy o jare...... at least she bought the gel from them.......

I'm not yoruba.... so, I'm not exactly keen on aso ebi for my wedding!! abegi jare.......

@anonymous 6:47,i disagree with your submission.the fact that you bought asoebi for your friends party doesnot guarantee them buying yours when it's time. mine for example;all those I bought their asoebi during their wedding DIDNOT buy my asoebi. So I have learnt my lesson only those that bought my asoebi, will I buy deirs when it's time.and I wil never go all the way to buy asoebi from any friend.

I totally agree with her. A supposed "friend" of mine side-lined me from her wedding plans because I did not buy her 20k asoebi despite the fact that I explained that I was not working yet and couldn't afford the asoebi. Carry go, my dear Tracy, u are so on point.

Linda, this is one of my favorite posts just because this might help some of the wannabes who usually feel like they are obligated to buy aso ebi. I went to this lady's Instagram page just to validate my curiousity ; hands down to her. First of all, it's not that she cant afford to splurge all that money on aso ebi but her mama thought her better than that. One girl left a comment on that pic and said"aso ebi is a multi mullion naira industry" . She's not lieing .100k/week for 12 months? You do the math.

Shovey said...

I do agree 100%. ama victim myself cos I only get to wear native on sat(that is if there is an event to attend). mon-fri corporate wears and even Sunday as a worker in RCCG. so why waste money on cloth you wont wear more than once? the last one I bought was 8k and the tailor sew for 3k, dats 11k and at the party, my host didn't come out to even offer me a chair, I stood for almost an hour before I dashed out. #nochair #nofood #nodrinks #nosouvenir!

Well, having read all the comments on this tracy's statement, i would add just a few things. Firstly the whole idea of hiking the price of asoebi above normal is so that friends can also support the wedding. hence the reason asoebi girls are given special recognition at weddings. I am not yet married but i have bought over 20 asoebi from friends and i have not complained because it is a form of support. Secondly, it is not by force, nobody has ever forced anyone to buy asoebi but if you feel your friend is worth it, then buy it and dont complain. For example most people sell the so called "expensive" asoebi to strictly close friends. I think her point is baseless, simply put that you either dont have money to buy the asoebi at that time and your friend can understand or you are just a kill joy for putting it up even with the picture of the wedding you didnt buy the asoebi for. This only shows that in my own opinion its possible you were not invited to the wedding and u just strolled in or u are just a hater.

Unknown said...

Ekwerem ekwe......asoebi no be by force......plus she got same colour, beautiful design. If a tailor can make the style I want perfectly, I call her a fashion designer. Simple. So u made your dress, Tracy, at a fashion designer's.

Anonymous said...

The 'small tailor' from Festac is also a designer in the making

Anonymous said...

I completely agree that some aso ebi prices can be bank breaking but let not forget that Materials come in different qualities and sizes e.g there is what is referred to as big lace and also those that are small. Not everyone goes to the market to buy their materials. Some of these materials have actual prices of about 15-25k so it really isn't extortion if 25k is then sold for 30-35K and as we all know, aso ebi is a means to support the wedding and its not like a lot of peeps still give presents anyway.

Anonymous said...

Na so oo.. When she takes her own advice and uses it in her biz we would listen.. But for now, don't spoil the fashion industry for designers, Abeg go siddon! This is d same lady who wanted to charge 500k for a Prewedding video I got for 50 k..der is God!
